After the twin eating holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas, most of us are ready to cut the sugar and massive calorie load. Many are ready to buckle down with their New Year’s goals to eat healthier.
So, what can you serve at your party or take to someone else’s that will help everyone stay on the straight and narrow?
Try a charcuterie board this year.
These are fun to make, create great eye-appeal, and can be nutrient-dense. Start with a large wooden board or a tray and get ready to have fun. Consider including something from each category:
Prosciutto, salami, small jerky sticks
Try a variety of hard and soft cheeses, such as brie, smoked cheddar, chevre, fontina, etc.
Dates, apples, figs, berries, dried fruits
Try mixed olives to offer variety
Almonds, toasted pecans, cashews
Chips, thin breadsticks, crackers, hummus, sliced veggies, pickled veggies, jams, honey mustard, etc.
If you’re making a tray for a large group of people, consider including a bowl or tray of gluten-free crackers. This small gesture of thoughtfulness will put a big smile of the faces of those who can’t eat gluten. Just be sure to relegate bread and crackers that contain gluten to one end of the tray so they aren’t touching everything else on the tray.
Charcuterie trays are a great way of making almost everyone happy. Enjoy!
